A staff leaderboard motivates salon therapists when it rewards the right things: money actually collected for sales, and every session actually delivered for service. Show who is free or in service, how many customers each person has served today and this month’s top performers, and track the salon’s target on the same dashboard. Pair it with two-track commission, so a sale and a service are rewarded separately, and staff have no reason to fight over customers.
Why salon leaderboards often cause customer-grabbing
Many salon owners put up a sales ranking hoping it will push the team. Without the right rules behind it, it often does the opposite:
- Only sales are ranked. Consultants who close packages climb the board, while therapists who do the treatments every day never appear on it.
- Sales are counted before money comes in. A package is “sold” at full value even when the customer has only paid part of it, so the ranking rewards promises, not cash.
- Whoever reaches the customer first wins. When commission depends on who opens the bill, staff rush to the door, and regular customers feel the tension.
- The board is updated once a month. By the time the ranking is announced, nobody remembers what happened, and nobody can change the result.
- Branches compare different things. In a salon chain, a customer who buys at one branch and redeems at another can make one branch look weak and another look strong.
I’ve seen many salons that reward package sales but pay no service fee. When a regular customer comes in to use her package, therapists often find excuses or pretend to be busy, because to them it is unpaid work. Only after the owner set up a dedicated service commission in the system for every package redemption did staff stop passing regular customers around and willingly take care of every follow-up session.

What a fair salon leaderboard should show

1. Who is free and who is in service, right now
A live view of each therapist’s status, free or in service, lets the front desk assign walk-ins and bookings to whoever is available. Assignment by availability, not by who reaches the customer first, removes one of the biggest causes of customer-grabbing.
2. Customers served today
Counting how many customers each therapist has served today gives credit to the people doing the treatments, not only the people closing sales.
3. This month’s top performers
Show the top three for the month, updated in real time. A short list keeps the focus on recognition, and because it changes during the month, staff can see their effort reflected while there is still time to act.
4. The salon’s target achievement
Put the leaderboard next to the salon’s target. When everyone can see how far the team is from the target, the ranking becomes part of a shared goal instead of a contest between colleagues.
How to use the leaderboard without staff fighting over customers
- Pay sales commission on money actually collected. Use tiers based on total collection, so a package only counts when the customer has paid. Our staff commission guide explains the model.
- Pay hands-on commission when the session is done. The therapist who performs each redeemed session is rewarded for it, whoever sold the package.
- Assign customers by status. Let the front desk use the real-time status board to send each customer to a free therapist.
- Recognise both tracks. When you announce the top performers, mention both the people who sold and the people who served.
- Settle cross-branch work automatically. If a customer buys at Branch A and redeems at Branch B, sales commission stays with Branch A and hands-on commission goes to the Branch B therapist. See cross-branch package redemption.
- Review the board with the team every week. Look at the target together, and discuss what will help the team reach it.

How MyBMS Pro supports fair staff motivation
MyBMS Pro is an AI-driven, next-generation SaaS management hub specifically designed for multi-branch beauty salons. These features work together to motivate staff without creating conflict:

- Real-time staff status and performance ranking. Shows each therapist’s current status (free or in service), customers served today and this month’s top three, to help the front desk assign customers.
- AI business dashboard. Tracks daily customer traffic, revenue trends, target achievement and outstanding balances in real time.
- Two-track tiered commission engine. Sales commission is calculated in tiers on total collection, and hands-on commission is triggered when a package session is redeemed or a service is consumed.
- Cross-branch commission routing. When a customer buys at one branch and redeems at another, sales and hands-on commission are routed automatically, with a cross-branch settlement report for month-end reconciliation.
- Atome support. The amount actually received after the platform’s fee is recorded and used as the basis for sales commission.

FAQ
Does a sales leaderboard make salon staff compete for customers?
It can, if it only ranks sales and rewards whoever reaches the customer first. Rank collected sales and delivered services separately, assign customers by who is free, and show the team target next to the ranking.
How do I motivate therapists who don’t sell packages?
Reward them for the sessions they deliver. Hands-on commission is paid when a session is redeemed, and showing customers served today gives their work visible credit.
Should salon staff see each other’s performance?
Showing the month’s top three and the salon’s target achievement is usually enough to motivate the team. Each owner decides how much detail to share with staff.
How often should a salon update its staff ranking?
A real-time ranking works better than a monthly announcement, because staff can see their progress while there is still time to improve it.
Is there a MyBMS Pro mobile app?
