A fair spa therapist commission scheme pays for two different jobs separately: sales commission, calculated in tiers on the money the centre actually collects from packages and products, and hands-on commission, paid every time a therapist performs a massage or a package session is redeemed. Pair it with a clear way to assign customers, based on which therapist is free right now, so therapists are rewarded for the work they do rather than for who reaches the customer first.
Why therapist commission causes arguments in massage and spa centres
Massage and spa centres run on repeat visits and personal trust, and that creates its own commission problems:
- Packages are sold once and used for months. A customer buys a massage package today and redeems it over many visits. Paying everything at the point of sale rewards the promise, not the work.
- Customers ask for their favourite therapist. When a regular asks for one therapist by name, other therapists may feel they never get a fair share of customers.
- Walk-ins go to whoever moves first. Without a clear rule, the therapist closest to the door gets the next customer, and the quiet ones lose out.
- Every treatment uses oil and products. If nobody records what each treatment uses, the centre cannot tell how much margin a service has before paying commission on it.
- Instalment payments arrive net of fees. When a customer pays with Atome, the centre receives less than the bill amount.
- Chains add another layer. A customer may buy at one outlet and be served at another.
Friction between therapists is often not about how much commission they earn, but about unclear rules for who takes the next customer. Write the rules down and make it obvious who is free, and customer-grabbing drops a lot on its own.

Two tracks: one for selling, one for doing

1. Sales commission: on money actually collected, in tiers
Pay sales commission on total collection, not on the value written on the bill. When a customer pays for a package in parts, the person who sold it earns sales commission as the money comes in. Tiers reward the staff who bring in more collections, and the centre never pays commission on money it has not received.
2. Hands-on commission: every time a treatment is done
Pay hands-on commission each time a therapist performs a massage or a package session is redeemed. If a customer bought a package from one therapist but is served by another, the therapist who did the treatment earns the hands-on commission for that visit, and the one who sold the package keeps the sales commission.
3. Oils and products: know the cost of each treatment
Set up a bill of materials (BOM) for each treatment, listing the oils and products it uses. When the treatment is completed or a package session is redeemed, the products are deducted from stock with it. You can see the real margin of each service before deciding how much commission it can carry.
4. Atome payments: commission on what arrives
When a customer pays with Atome, record the amount actually received after the platform’s fee and use it as the basis for sales commission. Read more in salon POS with Atome.
How to assign customers fairly
- Assign by who is free, not who is fastest. A real-time staff view shows which therapists are free and which are serving, and how many customers each has served today, so the front desk can assign the next customer on a clear basis.
- Write a rule for requested therapists. Decide in advance how a booking that names a therapist is treated, and how it counts towards fair assignment, so nobody argues after the fact.
- Fill the day with bookings, not surprises. Let customers book online and send WhatsApp reminders automatically, so the front desk knows who is coming and can plan which therapist takes which booking.
- For chains, book across outlets from HQ. HQ can arrange bookings for every outlet, so a customer can be sent to an outlet with a free therapist.
- Plan shifts around your busy days. Use the daily customer traffic shown on the dashboard to see which days are busiest, and plan your shifts with that in mind.
How to set commission rules your therapists trust
- Write both tracks down. List which items earn sales commission, which treatments earn hands-on commission, and the tiers.
- Cost every treatment. Attach a BOM to each one, so commission is set against real margin.
- Treat unredeemed sessions as a debt. Track every customer’s remaining sessions, redemption history and outstanding balance, and pay hands-on commission only when a session is done.
- Route cross-outlet visits automatically. If a customer buys at Outlet A and is served at Outlet B, sales commission stays with Outlet A and hands-on commission goes to the Outlet B therapist. See cross-branch package redemption.
- Show progress during the month. A ranking of this month’s top three, updated in real time, lets therapists see where they stand while there is still time to act.

How MyBMS Pro supports spa therapist commission
MyBMS Pro is an AI-driven, next-generation SaaS management hub specifically designed for multi-branch beauty salons. For massage and spa centres, these features work together:

- Two-track tiered commission engine. Sales commission in tiers on total collection, and hands-on commission when a package session is redeemed or a service is consumed.
- Real-time staff status and ranking. Shows which therapists are free or serving, customers served today and this month’s top three, to support fair assignment.
- Online booking and WhatsApp reminders. Customers book online and receive reminders by WhatsApp.
- HQ central booking. HQ can arrange bookings on behalf of every outlet.
- Treatment BOM and stock deduction. Completing a treatment deducts the session and the linked products at the same time.
- Membership and course tracker. Remaining sessions, redemption history and outstanding balance for every customer, redeemable at the same outlet or another.
- Atome support and cross-branch routing. Atome payments are recorded at the amount actually received, and commission is routed automatically when a customer buys at one outlet and is served at another.

FAQ
How is massage therapist commission usually calculated in Malaysia?
Many centres combine two tracks: sales commission on what the centre collects from packages and products, and hands-on commission on each treatment performed. Each centre sets its own rates and tiers.
Should a therapist earn commission when a customer redeems a package session?
Yes, that is what hands-on commission is for. It is paid when the session is actually done, while sales commission follows the money collected for the package.
What if a customer asks for a specific therapist?
Decide the rule in writing before it happens: how a requested booking is treated and how it counts towards fair assignment. Clear rules matter more than any single case.
How do I stop therapists from grabbing walk-in customers?
Assign walk-ins by who is free, using a real-time view of which therapists are free or serving, rather than by who reaches the customer first.
Is there a MyBMS Pro mobile app?
No. MyBMS Pro is a web-based system used in the browser. You can book a free demo to see how therapist commission is calculated.
