Salon POS with Atome in Malaysia: Pay Commission Correctly

Salon POS with Atome in Malaysia: How to Pay Commission on What You Actually Receive

When customers pay with Atome, your salon receives less than the bill after platform fees. Here is how to calculate staff commission on what you actually receive.

When a customer pays for a package with Atome, the salon does not receive the full bill: the BNPL platform deducts its merchant fee first. If staff commission is calculated on the full bill, the salon pays commission on money it never received. The fix is to record Atome as its own payment method, record the actual amount received after the platform fee, and use that amount as the base for sales commission. MyBMS Pro supports Atome and other BNPL platforms and does this calculation automatically.

Why BNPL changes the commission maths

Buy-now-pay-later platforms such as Atome make it easier for customers to commit to higher-value packages, because they can spread the payment over time. For the salon, the trade-off is the platform’s merchant fee.

Why BNPL changes the commission maths

That creates a gap between two numbers:

  • the bill amount the customer agreed to pay, and
  • the amount the salon actually receives after the platform fee.

Most salon systems only know the first number. If commission is calculated on the bill amount, every Atome sale quietly costs the salon more than it should.

A common misunderstanding I hear from salon owners: they assume an Atome sale is collected month by month, so commission must also be split over 6 or 12 months, or they simply feel the commission is too high.

Three common mistakes

  1. Recording Atome as cash or a generic e-wallet. The payment method is lost, so there is no way to separate BNPL sales later or check them against the platform’s settlement.
  2. Paying sales commission on the full bill. Commission is paid on the platform fee as well, which the salon never collected.
  3. Leaving the fee for the accountant to fix at month-end. By then the commission has already been paid out and is hard to claw back without arguments.

The right way to handle Atome sales

  • Record Atome as a separate payment method at checkout, so every BNPL sale is traceable.
  • Record the actual amount received after the platform fee, alongside the bill amount.
  • Use the amount received as the sales commission base. Staff are rewarded on real collections, which protects the salon’s cash flow.
  • Keep hands-on commission separate. The therapist who performs the treatment is rewarded when the session is actually delivered, regardless of how the package was paid for.

How MyBMS Pro handles BNPL payments

MyBMS Pro is built for multi-branch beauty salons in Malaysia, and its commission logic is designed around real cash collected:

How MyBMS Pro handles BNPL payments
  • BNPL compatibility. MyBMS Pro supports Atome and other mainstream BNPL platforms, and records the actual amount received after the platform fee.
  • Dual-track tiered commission engine. Sales commission is calculated in tiers on actual collections (total collection), while hands-on commission is triggered when a package session is redeemed or a service is performed.
  • Cross-branch routing. If a customer buys a package at one branch and is served at another, the system routes sales and hands-on commission automatically and produces a cross-branch settlement report for month-end reconciliation.
  • Package tracking. Remaining sessions, history and outstanding balances are tracked for every customer.

FAQ

Should salon commission be based on the bill amount or the amount received?

For BNPL sales, basing sales commission on the amount actually received protects the salon from paying commission on platform fees it never collected.

Does the therapist’s commission change if the customer pays with Atome?

With MyBMS Pro’s dual-track model, hands-on commission is triggered by the treatment performed, so it is handled separately from how the package was paid for.

Can I see Atome sales separately in reports?

Yes. Recording Atome as its own payment method means BNPL sales can be reviewed separately and checked against the platform’s settlement.

What if a customer buys with Atome at one branch and redeems at another?

MyBMS Pro routes the sales commission and hands-on commission to the correct staff and branch, and generates a cross-branch settlement report.
